Knock Knock: My Dad’s Dream for Me

Basic Info:

Written by Daniel Beaty. Illustrated by Bryan Collier. Published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in 2013.

Book Review:

Every morning, a little boy plays a game with his father. His father knocks at the door and the little boy pretends to be asleep until his father comes right next to the bed and says, “I love you.” One day, however, the little boy waits and waits, but the knock doesn’t come. As it turns out, his father has been incarcerated and now the little boy has to learn how to deal with that. This book is perfect for any young child who has an absent parent for any reason. This is a must read for anyone struggling with this issue.

Resources:

This has a variety of information about the author and illustrator (who have had similar experiences to the little boy) and a lesson plan.

This just offers a little few more thoughts about the book from the perspective of a writer and of a teacher, along with a couple of activity ideas for students.
