Mama Played Baseball

Basic Info:

Written by David A. Adler and illustrated by Chris O’Leary. Published by Harcourt Books in 2003.

Book Review:

Mama Played Baseball is told from the perspective of a young girl named Amy whose father is fighting in World War II and whose mother is playing in the All-American Girls’ Professional Baseball League. This book has beautiful artwork and does an excellent job at showing a side of World War II that isn’t often talked about. It is a great book for middle-elementary-school children (second or third grade) who are learning about American History and World War II, but maybe do not need yet to hear about all of the horrific events that took place.
